TOPSoccer FAQs

What is TOPSoccer?
TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer)
is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with special needs. It provides meaningful learning, development and physical participation opportunities to young athletes through the game of soccer. The emphasis is on development, training and meaningful participation rather than on competition.

Who can enroll in TOPSoccer?
TOPSoccer is offered to children between the ages of 6 and 19 with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy.

How many teams will be formed?
This depends on the number of players registered for our TOPSoccer program.  The number of players per TOPSoccer team will be smaller than typical soccer teams.

How will teams be formed?
TOPSoccer teams will be formed based on ability rather than age.  The first practice session will include all TOPSoccer players.  The coaches will decide on the number of teams and who will be in each team.

What day and time will practices/games be held?
The main practice session will most likely be on Saturdays.  Actual time will be announced prior to the start of the season.  A secondary practice session might be held during the week, depending on the level of interest and availability of players.

Where will practice/game sessions be held?
We use the Lehigh County Fields in South Whitehall Township.

What is the duration of the TOPSoccer season?
Fall season games start around the week after Labor Day and end around Thanksgiving (middle to end of November).  Spring season usually begins the first week in April and goes through the 2nd week in June.  This is similar to the typical soccer season.

What is the parent’s role in TOPSoccer?
Parent involvement in TOPSoccer is central to the success of this program.  At least one parent of each participant will have to stay at practice sessions and games.
